Amarantos Steam Baths

The village of Amaranthos is located in a beautiful forest near the Greek-Albanian border. North of the village, at a distance of 5 km, the highway leads to the Amarantos thermal steam baths, situated at the base of a large limestone rock at an elevation of 1,260 m.

The Steam Baths of Amarantos are part of the Konitsa Thermal Centre complex. Baths function with the physical use of hot air flowing from the inside of the earth, making them unique in their kind in Europe

Properties of Thermal Steam Baths of Amarandos

Hot air, in the form of steam with traces of radon, emerges from about 15 fissures at the base of a limestone rock. The steam is created by the evaporation of water in the Earth’s depths due to the very high temperatures there. Upon reaching the surface, it is channelled to the individual or group cabins at the health spa for steam treatments (sauna) and inhalations.

The temperature of the steam is 33-38°C and the moisture content 97-100%.

According to the 16th nationwide medical symposium in Greece, the Steam Baths of Amarandos are curative for the following health conditions:

Every year, mountaineering clubs from all over Greece visit us for the established climbing of Mount Kamenik, which extends to the wider Sierra Grammos. A network of marked trails, easy and difficult, long and short, through pristine virgin forests of black pine, fir and beech, beside rivers and lakes, and to the mountain peaks of the alpine zone, will satisfy the most demanding visitor.
